Using the TA Firefox extension with Portable Firefox

Post by Jim Bretti »

Our Firefox extension installer currently works only with the desktop version of Firefox. But you should be able to use the extension with Portable Firefox by following these instructions.

A minimum version of TextAloud 3.0.86 is required. If your version of TextAloud is earlier than 3.0.86, you can install a current version of TextAloud using the installer at http://www.nextup.com/files/ta3.exe.

1. Go to your TextAloud install directory, and locate the folder TAForFirefox
2. Copy this folder to your desktop.
3. Go into the folder you copied ... you'll see four files: 2 folders, an rdf file and a manifest.
4. Select these four files and add them to a zip archive
5. Change the extension of the zip archive from .zip to .xpi
6. If Portable Firefox is not running, go ahead and launch it.
7. Drag and drop the xpi file onto your Portable Firefox window.

Note that in step 7, you should be able to install the xpi from the Firefox File dialog, but it doesn't seem to work. So use the drag and drop method instead.
