Skipping forward and backward is currently possible only when text is loaded into TextAloud articles. So if you are having text read directly from the clipboard, or if you're using one of the external toolbars, skipping forward and backward is currently not possible.

For skipping around in TextAloud articles, all skip options are located under the Navigations menu. There are options to skip forward/backward by line, paragraph, and fixed numbers of lines. The only thing close to being able to customize the skipping is to create some bookmarks in the article (using Insert Tags -> Add Bookmark). Once you have the bookmarks in place, you can use Skip to Bookmark, under the Navigations menu, to skip to any bookmark while speaking is in progress.

You can also click the Stop button to stop speaking, scroll to the position where you want to resume, double click a word to select it, and click the Speak from Cursor button.
