please cant we get to read aloud in PDF files - you're on the NET reading away listening & enjoying you click a link to a PDF document hit the talk button & CLANG - its a NO GO

is it a matter of payment or something - the only way I can get my research appers read to me is to convert them from PDF easy to do but just another brick in the wall :)

keep up the great work

TextAloud seems to be able to directly open PDF files from the net.

At least if you go to the File->Open on the main menu in TextAloud then type the URL of a PDF file you need, for example, (without quotes)

and click 'Open', TextAloud automatically would start reading that PDF file. This also works with TXT and, presumably, with other file formats.

Please note, however, that TextAloud would not be able to read from a PDF if there exist certain access restrictions on the PDF's contents.

PS I quite agree that the possibility to open URLs to files directly in TextAloud by just right-clicking the links in the browser would have been be a great feature.

When a PDF is openned in the web browser, it is different than a normal web page and can't be accessed from the browser textaloud plugin. You can try what Del suggestions, or a safer method typically is use the Save button in the Adobe Reader toolbar shown in the browser to save the PDF locally, then open the PDF using TextAloud's File->Open.

Ken,

I just thought it might be great to have the following scenario automated (e.g. by doing some shell integration):

1. Righ click the web link to a PDF (or DOC, TXT, etc) file
2. Select 'Copy' from the drop-down list
3. Open TextAloud window
4. Go to File->Open under the main menu
5. Paste the link there
6. Press 'Open' ibidem to have the file read aloud.

so that one could just

1. Right-click the file's URL; and then
2. Select something like 'Read Aloud' or 'Read to File'

from the drop-down list to have the file spoken out.

Any chance this would be possible?

Thanks

Maybe at some point, we need to look more at it.
