question on list

Postby alexwmoir » Fri Jan 05, 2007 1:44 am

I have ALS and am trying this program for phone calls. I like the fact that its simple to use. Is there any way pre type a list of questions then speak them one at a time. The program works the way it is but I'm not the worlds fastest typist. So there is alot of time lost during the call, being able to have a pre-typed list that could be tiggered one at time would be a big help.

On the left side of the NextUp Talker window you'll see an area for setting up "Predefined Phrases". If this predefined phrases panel is not visible, you can enable it from the NextUp Talker View menu (View -> Show Predefined Phrases).

The phrases panel lets you set up commonly used phrases in advance, so you don't need to keep typing them. You can group your phrases in folders to make them convient to find when you need them.

One thing you can do with the predefined phrases is include strings in the text to be prompted for. You do this by using a % character before and after the word.

So for example, if you set up phrase like this:

Hello %name%. How are you.

Whenever you use this phrase, you will be prompted for a name to substitute.

Try right clicking in the predefined phrases area, and you'll see menu selections to add and edit phrases and folders.

Once you have your phrases set up, all you need to do is double click a phrase to use it, or use a keyboard shortcut assigned to the phrase.

Two columns

Jim
Thanks for the help I am off and running. Now I have so many folders I wonder if there is any way to make two columns side by side rather than one long one

There isn't a way to do that now, feel free to either post (or email) suggetsions and we'll look at what we can add in another version.

By the way, its a good idea to backup your phrase files once in a while in case you ever need to restore. Either backup the entire NextUp Talker application folder, or just the files in the directory with ".chl" extensions.
