"s" missing in "words like iPod and eBay"

Postby LimJK » Tue Oct 25, 2005 6:58 am

Hi,

Just installed TA 2.126a, and I was going through the various Helpful Expressions in the forum and found many of these expressions has be incorporated into TA.

I found "s" missing in the phrase "words like iPod and eBay"
However, if phrase is "words like ... anything else", it is OK"

Cheers

Were there a leading and trailing <s> in front of and after the pronounciation in the "pronounce as" field?

If so, try removing those.

I had a similar (but different) problem and getting rid of the <s>'s fixed it.

Are you saying that a pronunciation editor entry is causing the "s" in "words" to be dropped ?

The suggestion in the previous post might help, but it sounds like somethings not right. Would you post the entry that's causing the problem, or just email your UserTranslations.chl to jim@nextup.com.

More info on my version of the problem, which I was able to fix by removing the <s>s.

With this RegEx in the editor,

Word: {{re=\b([ei])([A-Z]+\w+)\b}}
Pronounciation: <s> $1 $2 <s>

when I tried to test this phrase,

there were words like iPod and eBay . . .

Paul (but not Kate) would say:

"there was words like iPod and eBay".

For me, the fix was getting rid of the leading and trailing <s>'s.

As an aside, it only occurred when the word preceding "were" starts with a "th".

I'm using the newest version of the Neo voices.

Try to use TextAloud Toolbar to read this:

I found "s" missing in the phrase "words like iPod and eBay"

I notice this happen when "words like" appear just before i?od, where ? is Capital letters (from B onwards)

I am using TA2.126a, I have also removed all entries of Pronunciation Editor. Testing with NeoSpeech English Voices Kate and Paul.

I will email UserTranslations.chl to you shortly.

Hi,

I have tried again and I am testing with NeoSpeech Kate and Paul only. I bought and downloaded NeoSpeech Kate and Paul about a week ago (I assume these are the latest)

Paul reads "words like iPod" correctly
Kate reads "words like iPod" dropping "s"

I have tried with NO entries in Pronunciation Editor, and I have tried with this RegEx in the editor with the same result.

Word: {{re=\b([ei])([A-Z]+\w+)\b}}
Pronounciation: <s> $1 $2 <s>

Cheers

Don't have any explanations for some of the things in this thread. That translation of "were" to "was" is really odd ... we're going to need to run this by NeoSpeech.
