Where can I change TA so voice name doesn't show?

Postby alex111 » Sun Dec 30, 2007 7:40 pm

When I listen to an mp3 file in Windows Media Player it shows the name TextAloud and the name of the Voice for example Cepestral: Callie, how/where (what file) can I modify so these words don't show up every time a file is played?

Thank you.

Alex, you can manually remove tags from mp3 files. To edit/remove tags right click a file, choose properties and then click Advanced under the Summary tab. There's also sort of temporary workaround to automate this

It should be Start and not Star, of course. I've corrected the typo in that post. If you are on non-english version, you may find the start button on a microsoft keyboard too, that with windows logo on it.

Thanks again for your assistance.

I followed all of your steps, but am not clear on step number 9.

After restart, I pressed alt+shift and named a folder TA-MR3, but I'm not sure if it "temporarily changed my keyboard layout to Greek".
How can I tell? It didn't display the folder name as TA-MP3, it's still TA-MR3.

Would you be so kind as to assist me with this, please?

thank you again.

Hi Alex,

Looks like your system is using a different key combination (other than Alt+Shift) to switch languages.

To switch to Greek you can simply left click the language bar icon (typically blue and sitting on the taskbar near the system tray) and select Greek from the list.

If language bar icon isn’t visible you can go Start->Settings->Control panel->Regional and language options->(then under the Language tab)->Details->Language bar and select 1st and 3rd boxes, or go Start->Settings->Control panel->Regional and language options->(then under the Language tab)->Details->Keyboard settings and find out which key combination is currently in use.

Can you tell me why this works?

Postby alex111 » Sat Mar 22, 2008 10:57 pm

I see that naming the folder with greek characters works successfully.
Can you tell me *why* it works this way? How does naming the folder with greek characters, remove the tags automatically?

thanks.

It’s just a useful bug. I think that method to automatically remove mp3 tags works thanks to kind of a Unicode problem in mp3 encoder.

When you are writing a file to a directory whose name is using Unicode characters, mp3 encoder seems to fail in attempt to create the tag.

the reason I ask is...

Postby alex111 » Mon Mar 24, 2008 12:11 pm

Thank for your reply.

The reason I asked is that I have a program that grabs the TA converted file from the output folder and sorts them. The program won't succeed with a greek named output folder apparently. I don't know much about unicode, but is there some unicode that is more common than greek, that might be recognized possibly by a basic ms-compatible program, yet still not create the tags? Any thoughts?

Some ms-compatible programs don’t seem to have greek versions but they do have cyrillic and it may well be that such programs would be able to access folders named in cyrillic. So the idea is it might fix the problem if some cyrillic (and not greek) characters were used in the directory name TA-MP3. If you want to take a shot you might try activating russian keyboard layout and renaming the directory to NF-VH3, which would be displayed as TA-MP3.

Thanks again for your reply, I will try your suggestion.

In the meantime, does TA automatically create tags for a WAV file?

No. Text Aloud doesn't create wave tags.

re:writing a file to a directory whose name is using Unicode

Postby alex111 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 3:02 pm

In regard to "writing a file to a directory whose name is using Unicode characters" how do you get TA to write a file to a directory whose name is using Unicode?

I changed the language keybord settings and created a folder, but in TA > Voices and File Options > File Options > Audio Output Directory > Browse > it shows the folder as /??-??3/ and upon selecting OK it states "Output Directory /??->>3/ does not exist.

What's the trick to making this work?

I had tried naming output folder in greek and russian and both languages did the trick with TA version 2.2xx running on XP SP2 Professional. Not quite sure but maybe the problem comes of a different software configuration.

There is a chance that depending on the output file type, some of the encoders could have trouble with directory names requiring unicode.

naming output folder in greek and russian and both languages

Postby alex111 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:29 pm

You're saying in TA > Voices and File Options > File Options > Audio Output Directory > Browse > it shows the folder in greek or russian?

Yes, definitely.

A possible reason why TextAloud is still telling you ‘The output directory ??-??3 does not exist’ is you have not selected greek (or russian) for use with non-unicode programs.

Here’s how you can fix this (in case you are using greek as additional language )

1. Go Start->Settings->Control panel ->Regional and Language Options

2. Under Advanced tab, select greek for use with non-Unicode Programs and click OK.

3. Click OK when System asks for restart.

The same recipe should work if you select russian for additional language (in which case you’ll have to select russian in step 2).

One thing to keep in mind is TextAloud may not be able to locate the output path if you mix two non-Latin languages in the directory name.

Hope this helps fix the problem.
