Looking for Car MP3 player

Postby diego2 » Thu Jun 21, 2007 3:28 am

Hello,
My car has a MP3 slot available. I was wondering if I just buy a regular MP3 player if it would work with the car, or would I also have to buy an FM transmitter too? Any suggestions, comments or any new models coming out welcome.

Some of the stuff at
http://www.google.com/search?lr=&ie=UTF ... 3%20player
might be helpful.

I'd probably buy a cheap mp3 player, then one of those FM trasmitters that plug into the cigarette ligher.

I bought MP3 player for my car based on the reviews and thought it would work very well without any interference with the other FM stations being broadcast.
The product works fine and the sound output is good. I would recommend this playerthis player to anyone who wants a nice car MP3 player at this price, i think it’s good price. But I would suggest that check all the FM frequencies available on the product with the local FM station frequencies and match at least one or two channels without any interference or crossover.

I've got an XM Radio that has a built-in transmitter, and if I'm on a long trip, I have to change frequencies about every hour, as I move from one radio market to another.

The nice think about buying an MP3 player separate and using an FM transmitter is that you can pick exactly the MP3 player you want from among the dozens (probably hundreds) of possibilities with the broadest range of selection (vs. being limited by something that would plug in directly to your car, where I'd imagine the selection is much more limited).

Suggestions on transmitter:

1. Get one that can work with all stations, not just four down around the 88Mhz range.
2. Get one that is easy to change stations on the fly
3. Get one where the unit plugs directly into your car's lighter socket -- not one with batteries and not one where the lighter plug has a wire that leads to the transmitter, which then has a wire leading to the player. Much better if the entire transmitter plugs into the socket, with one 3.5MM jack at the end of a wiere coming out of that, which plugs into your MP3 player. This way, it's much easier to pick up the MP3 player to change songs, etc, without the transmitter unit itself dangling 3 inches from the player.

I bought mine for $49.99 at BestBuy. Didn't see it when I looked on their website, but it is available in the stores where I live.
