Postby Samlaptop85213 » Thu Oct 30, 2008 4:59 pm

Microsoft is planning to release it's next version of windows called Windows 7. It has been displayed to the PDC and everyone who was where recieved a pre beat version to install on their own PC's.

Here is a wikapedia article which when a new build is released, they will update it straight away.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7

The wikaepedia article tells you all about the features of windows 7 and even includes a screenshot of windows 7.

The current version is:
6.1 build: 68933

They are exspecting to release windows 7 in June 3rd 2008. A public beta of windows 7 will be released early 2009. If a release date is confirmed for public betas or release dates, I will edit this page.

Windows 7 final

Postby geneven » Mon Jul 06, 2009 2:06 am

Just to keep this topic up to date: Windows 7 RC is available for free trial now, and the final version is due on October 22. I'm very fond of Windows 7, and I have been running the beta TextAloud in it for some time.

I am running Windows XP sp3 Professional ( Media Center Edition ). I ordered the Windows 7 Professional upgrade disc. I read the installation directions on the Microsoft website. My question is, can I install the Windows 7 upgrade disc to a blank hard drive or am I best advised to do as Microsoft instructs and install on top of XP? Any advice on this matter would surely be appreciated.

Yes, but you need to keep XP on before you clean install. I'm going to pre-order my version of windows 7 soon.

I think you can only do it if you have the serial number of the XP/Vista/Previous version of windows. I remember running into a problem with the Vista Upgrade on a clean disc when it asked for the serial number. It kept saying it was wrong until I finally had an epiphany and entered the serial number of my XP disc, in which case, it finally let me do a clean install – installing over top of a previous windows is not highly recommended.

The other scenario is if you insert the disc while the previous windows is still running. Then wait until the welcome screen shows up, choose install or whatever the option is, and then when the system reboots it should give you an option on whether you want to do a clean install or an upgrade – if it’s anything like the Vista upgrade.
