Thai voices from Nuance

Postby Jonathan » Mon Dec 19, 2011 4:17 am

Hi,
I have recently read that Apple's
"OS X Lion introduces new, multilingual, high-quality text-to-speech voices"
and they are reported to be from Nuance, from which TextAloud has obtained
numerous voices....

Wouldn't it be nice if TextAloud could get the Nuance Thai voice for use with
TextAloud? Is that very complicated/difficult? Are there any short/long-term plans
in this regard?

Thailand is a fairly large country that has become quite internationalized in various ways,
so I would think there would be considerable demand for this.

Many years ago, I used Apple computers, and my switch to Windows computers was motivated
largely by the broader range of international/multilingual software available for Windows
(for studying foreign languages) but now I'm a bit envious of the Apple Thai voice.....

It's great to see the number of TextAloud Nuance voices and languages increasing. However, I would really like to know if there is any likelihood of having a Thai voice available for TextAloud in the near future or medium-term future.
I use TextAloud for various languages and it works excellently. I have another TTS product exclusively for Thai language, which has some technical shortcomings and is not so cheap, and I have to decide whether to buy an additional license for a new computer. I'd much rather wait for a Thai voice for TextAloud if such a voice might become available.... is there more demand for a Basque or Icelandic voice, or is there some technical/legal/business reason why a TextAloud Thai voice will never become available?
