Option to undo dictionary deletions

Postby kremesch » Wed Aug 19, 2009 3:26 pm

I just did something incredibly stupid today, and deleted my entire English US dictionary.

This led me to wonder if I could request an undo option in upcoming releases to undo deletions (for entries as well).

Is this something that would be easy to implement?

Hi Kim,

There are probalbly some things we can do around this ... I've added to our enhancement list. We'll try to get something in a future release.

In the meantime it it is a good idea to keep backup copies of the Dictionaries folder, displayed when you click Help > Open Data Folder.

Luckily, I did have a backup on a USB stick. It was a little older than it should have been though, and now I just have to remember what regex I was using for the repeated underscore that I corrected.

However, this scenario is what made me think it would be a good idea to have either an undo option, or even an automatic backup created of the dictionary/dictionaries every time someone makes a change to it, like an autosave.bak (or better yet, nameofdic.bak) that simply needs to be renamed to the proper extension in order to recover it.
