The Opticbook 3600 is still too pricey at $237.

If it got awesome reviews I'd buy it at that price. It seems like it's reviews are marginal. Those shaded areas near the spine are a large issue. I scan hard bound texts but my Canon 8400f does pretty well with finereader 7.0 on curved (spine area) text. Making audio books is, in reality, a nightmare and anything that would make it easier is an investment worth considering. My books all come from the library and removing the spine is out of the question.

For some reason the first page of this thread is so wide it runs off the right side of my screen, unlike this second page. Any reason why this is? And can it be fixed?

How fast is the 8400f in pages scanned per hour?

It gets about three pages per minute. that's at 300 DPI. You might look at online pictures of the 8400f before you decide. the unit is very big physically.
