I fixed the problem. I forgot that I loaded the 64 bit Firefox and the add-on doesn't work in the 64 bit at this time. It's working fine in the 32 bit version.

How do you know if you are running Firefox in 32 or 64 bit mode?

Can you provide step by step instruction on how one can change from Firefox 64 bit mode to 32 bit.

I am guessing if the Firefox on one's system is in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\ you are running Firefox in the 32-bit mode?

Did you solve this problem by installing the latest version of TextAloud?

At this time the only way to tell if you are running Firefox 32 or 64 bit is the directory path "C:\Program Files (x86)\" or "C:\Program Files\" or the uninstall will show (x86 en-US) or (x64 en-US).

Also, it uses the same profile data the is stored under the Roaming directory. You cannot have 32 bit open at the same time as the 64 bit. It uses the same path C:\Users\profile\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\. Once you close the 64 bit and open the 32 bit it ask you if you would like to enable TextAloud add-on.

It looks like you can also enter about:buildconfig in the Firefox address bar to find if you're running 32 bit or 64 bit Firefox. On my system the Build Platform displays as i686-pc-mingw32 for 32 bit Firefox, and x86_64-pc-mingw32 for 64 bit.

You might be able to use different Firefox profiles to get around the problem of needing to reinstall the TextAloud add-on every time you switch to x64 and back. It would probably create more problems than it solves, since the profile contains data like your bookmarks, browsing history, etc. Using the same profile, when you switch from 64 bit to 32 bit, you'll need to click through the confirmation to install the TextAloud extension, and restart Firefox.

We'll try to add 64 bit support to the extension soon.

I just placed a TextAloud update, version 3.0.88, at http://www.nextup.com/files/ta3.exe. The Firefox toolbar in this update includes support for the 64 bit version of Firefox.

Please give it a try when you can and let me know if you run into any problems.

I've been using the 32 bit version of Firefox. No toolbar for Text Aloud. I just installed the 64 bit version and still no toolbar for TA.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
